La doma clásica consiste en la harmonía y elasticidad del caballo, juntamente, con su jinete, así formen el binomio perfecto.
El objetivo de esta disciplina ecuestre es conseguir una alta puntuación, que se suma cada movimiento que hace el binomio, el paso, trote y galope del caballo cuenta muchísimo, el caballo debe tener unos aires de calidad con mucha elasticidad.

En la doma clásica hay diferentes categorías, donde se clasifican a los jinetes y caballos por la edad y experiencia.
Las categorías son las siguientes:
Alevines, Infantiles, Juveniles, San Jorge, Intermedia I, Gran Premio (categoría reina)
